In July, I went with members of EK Theater to Taiwan to work with a small group of KMSH students. In a five-day period, we created a new Chinese-language, video game puppetry piece based on Journey to the West, which popularly is known as the story of the Monkey King.
My first tattoo will be a Street Fighter 2 tattoo (or why this machinima theater director has an affection for the game)
I have wanted a tattoo for a while now. I practice yoga, and I skateboard. And yogis and skateboarders often sport tattoos. I just can’t seem to commit to a design. Inked Magazine recommends finding a tattoo that you connect with. Greatist suggests picking something that is "meaningful or beautiful, silly or fantastic."
Well, Capcom's Street Fighter 2 is a little of all those things to me. Yes, it's a little silly, but it's also fantastic. And the game is meaningful to me. As for the beauty, have you seen ChunLi?
Video Game Puppetry Goes to London
Mozilla invited my video game puppetry troupe to give a workshop at MozFest, a festival that celebrates the Open Internet Movement. So I flew to London and, with a team of talented volunteers, led workshops in a machinima theater performance of “The Story of Niobe” from Ovid’s Metamorphoses using Halo: Reach.
